Hello Ade! Tell us a little about yourself?

I’m Ade Hassan. A proud mum and founder of Nubian Skin, a lingerie brand focused on redefining nude.

Why do you think it’s important to celebrate International Women’s Day?

Women do so much unrecognised or under appreciated work, and it’s great that we have a day dedicated to celebrating womanhood in all its guises.

This year’s theme is #ChooseToChallenge. Tell us about a time when you were faced with an obstacle that you challenged.

Nubian Skin for me has been a testament to challenging the norm. The lingerie industry needed a shake up when it came to how nude was defined, and I’m so proud I took the leap to challenge that norm and change the industry.

Tell me a time you felt the most empowered.

Perhaps not the most empowered, but a definite power moment. In my previous life in finance, I remember a time I went with my boss and colleague into a pitch meeting. We were all women, dressed in black power outfits and we had on our silk scarves and heels, and we just looked amazing. We walked into the meeting and killed it. I remember my boss turning to both of us after the meeting and saying, I am SO proud of you ladies! You were perfect.

What was your dream job as a little girl?

Nurse. Pop star. Doctor. Business Woman.

If you could have dinner with 3 women, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

I would love to be around a table with my two grandmothers, who passed away a while ago, and my mum.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to 18 year old you?

I feel as though I was doing really well at 18. Maybe put a little bit more effort into studying, you don’t have to go to every party.

What is a change you would like to see for women in the next generation?

I’d like us all to be less judgmental of each other. Just live and let live and have a bit more compassion.

What is your favourite thing about being a woman?

Besides being a mother, getting dressed up!

My mother, all day every day.
