The Muse Journal: 01 - Belu Bergman
For our first instalment we meet Belu Bergman, a movement artist, performer + educator based in Miami Beach, whose work explores presence, strength + self-awareness through the body.
We spoke to Belu about her practice, her creative process + her experience wearing Casey...
The Casey collection balances softness with structure. What drew you to the collection, + how did it feel to wear it?
What drew me to this set was that it's sexy and elegant at the same time. It reveals without showing too much, and it shapes the body in a really beautiful way.
Your work blends movement, strength + self-discovery. What led you down this path?
I guess I've always had an infinite curiosity about what my body can do, or what I can do with my body. There are things I cannot communicate through verbal language, and they find their way through movement and visual compositions.
How has movement shaped your relationship with yourself?
Movement is my cable to Earth, my way back to my center, my roots, and my North. I would say movement has allowed me to build a solid relationship with myself, where confidence and authenticity are very present.
Do you have a daily ritual that helps you feel grounded?
Handstands! Hahah. Every day, no matter if it's a two-hour session or a quick 10-minute practice, getting upside down and finding balance on my hands always brings me back.
Where are your favourite places to eat or your favourite recipes?
I'm very simple. I'm perfectly happy with an almond milk cappuccino, scrambled eggs, avocado, and arugula. That... and yogurt! Just give me coffee, eggs, and yogurt forever.
What one thing are you currently obsessed with?
I love this question. I'd say bringing my vision into reality. Taking the imaginary world I see in my mind and translating it into the external one. Composing. Creating universes through movement, music, clothing, architecture... all of it coming together.
Where do you find inspiration?
A lot of my inspiration comes when I'm listening to music, getting lost walking for hours and imagining things. But I also find inspiration in less abstract things like shapes, colors, and fashion. I'm also deeply inspired by strong-minded people with strong values, people who belong to themselves, who don't sell their soul, and by watching their process.
What is your favourite book / movie / TV series?
There's a movie I watched recently, and I'm willing to take the risk of saying it's my favorite so far: Poor Things. Emma Stone is incredible in it. And for a TV series, definitely The White Lotus.
What is your favourite lingerie tip or styling secret?
Elegance and quiet luxury are always my main directions.
What song are you playing on repeat at the moment?
Well, I mostly listen to techno, but there's one song from a completely different genre that I've had on repeat lately: "Me and the Devil" by Soap&Skin. (Yes... intensity haha)
One woman who inspires you?
Aurora, the Norwegian singer who sounds like an angel.
